Jordan Harris suggested in a comment on the Swirl, Sip, and Snark blog that a bunch of VA wine bloggers create top 20 Virginia Wine lists. He's curious to see which wines stand out to people. VA wineDiva e-mailed me suggesting we (my wife and I participate). Caveat: First, there are a lot of Virginia wines we have not tasted. Second, we decided to limit our list to wines we have purchased. It seemed to us that, no matter how good it tasted, if we didn't buy it, it couldn't really be a favorite.
This is a composite list of wines she liked, I liked, and we both liked. So, here are our favorites in no particular order of preference:
1. Rappahanock Viognier Noblese 2008
2. Chester Gap Viognier Reserve 2008
3. Pollak Viognier 2009
4. Keswick Viognier Les Vents D'Anges 2009
5. North Gate Viognier 2009
6. Narmada Midnight 2009 (chambourcin)
7. Pearmund Chardonnay old vine 2007
8. Rappahanock Chardonnay 2008
9. Aspen Dale Rockawalin 2008 (Cabernet Sauvignon)
10. Paradise Springs Nana's Rose 2008
11. Paradise Springs Cabernet Franc 2009
12. Chateau O'Brien Northpoint Red 2006
13. Willowcroft Traminette 2007
14. Chester Gap Petite Manseng 2009
15. Pearmund Cellars Ameritage Reserve 2008
16. Glen Manor Petit Verdot 2007
17. DuCard Popham Run Bordeaux Blend 2008
18. Glen Manor Sauvigion Blanc 2008
19. Hiddencroft Vineyards 2008 Cabernet Franc
20. Keswick Vineyards Cabernet Franc 2009
Nice list! There are some on your list that I haven't tried yet. Interesting how we all have different wines on our lists.
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul,
ReplyDeleteI would hope we had some differences. Looks like Nort Gate will open their new tasting room soon. You guys should definitely try Mark and Vicki's wines.
Hi Kurt - great list. Several I've not tried. I've updated the summary post to include your list in the stats: http://drinkwhatyoulike.wordpress.com/2011/03/01/va-wine-top-20-list-an-analysis/
ReplyDeleteCheers!
