Catherine Coughlin, the marketing manager from Boxwood Estate Winery, greeted the TasteCamp participants outside the estate tasting room, along with Stacey Sheetz from Visit Loudoun. Cat told us to come inside to try their newly released 2011 Rose. The TasteCamp participants were then welcomed by Rachel Martin, the Boxwood Executive Vice President. Carol and I also said hello to Amanda, the Boxwood tasting room manager. We recently met Amanda on a tour of Boxwood.
The TasteCamp participants went into the Chai (tank) room which had been set up with tables for us. At each table we had a wonderful family style lunch from Ayrshire Farm, paired with two 2007 wines from the Boxwood Estate Winery library. I especially enjoyed the 2007 Topiary. Others preferred the 2007 Boxwood.
After introductions by Frank Morgan and a presentation by Rachel on Boxwood Winery, Richard Leahy spoke about his new book on Virginia wine, Beyond Jefferson’s Vines”. We also each received an autographed copy of Richard's book.
Following lunch and a tour of the wine cave with Adam McTaggart, Boxwood winemaker, we all went outside to the Grand Tasting featuring Ankida Ridge Vineyards, Annefield Vineyards, Barboursville Vineyards, Boxwood Winery, Blenheim Vineyards, Gadino Cellars, Glass House Winery, Hume Vineyards, Pearmund Cellars, Rappahannock Cellars, and White Hall Vineyards.
Following the Grand Tasting, most of us went on the bus back to the National Conference Center and eventually out to Breaux Vineyards for the evening program.
