Casanel Vineyards

After a trip to Hillsborough Vineyards we decided to swing by Casanel Vineyards.  Casanel is always a pleasant stop for us.  I always smile when I am at Casanel.

Fred and Allison had come over to Casanel after their visit to Catoctin Creek Winery.  They were still there when we entered.  We were greeted warmly by Nelson and managed to wave to the busy "Casanel girls" Katie and Anna.

All in the family
The place was really too busy to talk to the staff much other than during our tasting.  Casanel had just released their new vintage of 2011 Dulce, their dessert wine. It is a very successful dessert wine. The new vintage is quite refreshing and is made from Casanel's estate grown Chardonnay and Pinot Gris fruit.  This version of Dulce is lighter than the previous version and has lively apple flavor with hints of cinnamon and honey.  Although it has 8 percent residual sugar, it doesn't taste cloying at all. I loved it.

Desserts to try with the new 2011 Dulce
We bought a bottle of the new Dulce to share with Fred and Allison.  Fred bought a bottle of the Norton Rose, another favorite of ours, and we chatted about the Virginia wine scene and Casanel in particular while we munched on some complimentary dessert treats.  Carol and I took home a bottle of the 2011 Dulce too.

Busy day at Casanel

Casanel is a wonderful little winery in Loudoun County.  We always enjoy visiting the DeSouza family and their always improving winery tasting room. I noticed the number of medals keeps growing too. When you visit Casanel tell them you read about them on Wine About Virginia.
