Virginia wine tasting trip - Deciding which wineries to visit

I offered our church an item for the upcoming auction.  I submitted a Virginia wine day trip.  Carol and I would pick up the individual or couple and take them to a couple of the best Virginia wineries with lunch in between.  All tasting fees and lunch covered by me.  Any wine purchases are the winner's responsibility.

So I wonder where I should take them?  Our church is in Oakton, Va, in Fairfax County.  I promised two of the best wineries and lunch and a ride home so that limits me to northern Virginia, at least.

Do we head out to Loudoun County?  Great restaurants and some great wineries out there, to be sure.

Do we head up RT 211/522?  Some good and some great wineries on that particular stretch of road and at least one wonderful restaurant.  (No, not the Inn at Little Washington.  I wasn't planning the trip to be that special.)

Out I-66/Rt 55?  Some great places out that way too.

Of course, I will photograph and document our trip on this blog.  So, where would you take them?

  1. I would recommend:
    1. Paradise Springs
    2. Lunch at Vinifera Wine Bar & Bistro
    3. Boxwood
    4. RDV
    5. Barrel Oak
    6. Pearmund

It might be a little aggressive so you might want to cut one or more out. Here's a map of the route: http://www.AmericanWineryGuide.com/itineraries/181

  2. Kurt: Nice touch. Let us know if you need a comp. for tasting/lunch at Barrel Oak.

  3. Is RDV open to the public or do you have to have appointment and pay $40 tasting fee?

    1. Last I checked RDV was appointment only and charged $40 for a 90 minute visit.
